Christians refer to it as Heaven. Hindus and Buddhists call it Nirvana. Muslims - In Arabic they say جَنَّة (Jannah) which translates to "paradise" or “garden”… for my fellow quasi Abrahamic, deadhead hippie golfers - Sydney R. Marovitz along the lake in Chicago is all those combined and more!! Imagine if each of the marquee holes at Cypress Point, Augusta, Oakmont, Medinah (#3, duh), LACC, Chicago Golf Club, Ballybunion (old), Tara Iti GC and TCC (main course) … that’s Sydney Marovitz. They should offer annual memberships here - I’d sell an organ to just get on the waitlist!

What a special place, that could be so much more with just a little more love. How do you keep a diamond in the rough in the rough. I played the course on Monday and had a blast. So here is a suggestion, cut down down some trees to show more of the lake, raise a couple of tee boxes to see over the wall, like #1, open up the property, clean up the property, figure out a way to make it more than just another 9 hole muni, even though I respect that attitude. Don't be simple just because you are lazy, there is a huge amount of potential for the place.

After my flight got canceled, I took an uber over to the Waveland course, and the staff got me all set up. Decent set of rental clubs, and a sleeve of balls turned my flight cancellation into a great time! The staff were super helpful, and very accommodating to a stranded traveler trying to make the best of the situation. It was such a cool course surrounded by views of the city and lake. I will definitely make it a point to come back for another round next time I’m in Chicago.

We had an excellent experience here visiting from Idaho. Beautiful course, nice staff, reasonably priced for the location, and we got paired up with a really nice couple from Illinois. My one complaint was no driving range and the putting area was closed but everything else was great. Will be back again!

All my experiences took place Sunday AM Memorial Day weekend, between 6:15-9am. 6:39am tee time started right on time. Played early morning. Walked 9, 2.25hrs, there were only 2 of us, but the 4 some kept a good pace out in front of us. Greens were money, rolled probably 9-10, great undulations and a lot bigger than I expected, very nice condition for a Muni in my opinion, (I fixed a few ball marks but it wasn’t played out in my opinion), and I have played a lot of the cheapest from coast to coast. Nice mature trees. I think it is a steal to walk 9 holes of golf in Chicago for $30! And parking is cheap for the golf course too. Shorty walk to the Cool old clubhouse (you can drop your clubs too). Looks like they have a very nice short game practice area/facility for First Tee, next door. But they have a nice size putting green to check your speed next to the first tee. I really enjoyed the course and layout. It was fun. Only complaint is the bunkering. They are big and they are a great feature. They even have enough, nice, sand in them. They are just not being maintained properly. They need to be compacted and grated so the sand is more consistent across the whole bunker. Great va
